shellton privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-06-29

shellton is an SSH and Mosh client developed by Datons. It includes no analytics, advertising, attribution, or tracking SDKs and does not collect personal data for Datons.

Data Datons does not collect

Datons does not receive device identifiers, terminal content, commands, output, hostnames, usernames, private keys, voice recordings, or transcripts. shellton contains no first-party telemetry.

Data stored on the device

  • Saved connections, preferences, themes, snippets, and command history.
  • SSH keys in the iOS Keychain, with optional biometric protection.
  • Trusted SSH host fingerprints used to detect identity changes.
  • Downloaded voice models and voice workflow configurations.

Datons cannot access this data.

iCloud and manual transfer

When iCloud is available, accessory-bar configuration can synchronize in shellton's private iCloud container. Apple operates that service and Datons cannot access the container. YAML import and export lets you save a copy through Files; you choose where it is stored. Private keys and passwords are not included in the YAML export.

Network connections

shellton may make the following connections when you use the corresponding features:

  • SSH and Mosh directly to hosts you configure.
  • WhisperKit or MLX Parakeet model downloads; audio is not included in a download request.
  • iCloud for accessory-bar configuration synchronization.
  • APNs and a user-configured HTTPS webhook for Live Activities.

SSH and Mosh traffic never passes through Datons servers.

Microphone and local network

The microphone is used only for optional voice input. Apple Speech, WhisperKit, and MLX Parakeet process audio on the device; shellton does not save or send the recording to Datons. Local Network permission allows connections to SSH and Mosh servers on your own network.

Background location

If you opt in to background SSH continuity, shellton uses low-accuracy location updates while an SSH session is active to keep its transport running. Location values are ignored: they are not stored, processed, or transmitted. You can disable the feature in Settings → Security or revoke permission in iOS Settings. Mosh sessions do not use this permission.

Retention and deletion

Deleting shellton removes data from its local app container. iOS may retain Keychain items; delete keys in Settings → Security before uninstalling if you want them removed immediately. iCloud and exported YAML files must be deleted separately through Files.
